Winter Session Beginner

The Beginner practice is geared toward wrestlers in grades K-2 with one (1) or less seasons of wrestling experience. Exceptions can be made on an individual basis for children who are not yet in Kindergarten to participate. Beginner practices are highly structured and introduce basic wrestling concepts, with a focus on learning fundamental wrestling moves and gross motor coordination, which will allow for further wrestling growth in the future.

Winter Session Intermediate

The Intermediate practice is geared toward older and/or more experienced wrestlers - grades 3 and up with 3-4 seasons of wrestling experience and/or middle school aged wrestlers regardless of experience. Younger wrestlers with 2 or more seasons of experience may be moved up to the Intermediate group at coaches’ discretion.

Winter Session Advanced

The Advanced practice is geared toward seasoned wrestlers looking to compete at a state, regional, or national level. Practices will continue refinement of fundamental technique and match strategies, but will happen at a higher pace in an effort to prepare wrestlers in this group for success in Middle School, High School, and beyond. Members of the Advanced practice group are expected to be focused and attentive throughout practices and participating in competition opportunities throughout the season with a goal of competing at the VAWA Kids’ State Championships in March. Advanced wrestlers who qualify for the VAWA Kids’ State Championships will receive additional, no-charge VAWA State Preparation in the weeks between the end of the Winter season and the date of the State Tournament.
